Day 10
• Went to breakfast earlier today, before 0700, then checked out of the resort and left for Kanchanaburi 北碧府 • The road leading to the only bridge, Sud Chai Bridge, through which we had planned to go and to visit the Bridge over River Kwai, was closed for repair. • So, we changed the plan and headed to Kee Ree Mantra Restaurant for lunch instead. Pivoting to focus on food can never go wrong. • There are several highlights to this restaurant, in addition to its food, which is awesome by itself. But what impressed me was its restroom. Yes, the restroom. • We toured around the large open space a little after lunch. And we fed the fish in the pond. • The next stop was a large flower and fruit tree garden nearby, the Maple Garden. It was popular, crowded with people taking photos in the colorful flower garden. We enjoyed the free longan buffet – sweet and juicy longans fresh off the tree. • There are also many food stalls and market selling produces and crafts. Maria bought some fresh tamarind, and Kevin bought a straw cowboy hat. • Checked in the Sai Yok Resort on the River Khwae Noi (small). • The Kwai River Bridge is on River Khwae Yai (large). Both Khwae Noi and Khwae Yai join and form the River Mae Klong (夜功河), not to be confused with the River Mekong (湄公河) • Off to floating in the river – all boarded onto a pontoon/floating platform where a life jacket is required; today, only Kevin jumped in the river today • In struggling with settings of the new camera I literally had just received a week before departure, I totally failed to capture the sequence action photos when Kevin jumped in the water, but he had fun. The only thing I managed to focus on was his toes; sorry, Kevin • Kevin and 老詹had to change their room as the water heater malfunctioned; it turned out better because the new room was a larger 3-person room with 2 beds • Buffet dinner at the resort. It was barely passing. We must have been spoiled since we first got here. We had had great food every single meal this trip, regardless of the restaurant we ate or the resort we stayed at. • A few cold local beers by the river after dinner before going to bed. I’ve been having very good sleep the entire trip.
